ONE of Redditch United's backroom team is sure to be heading to Nottinghamshire to spy on the club's FA Cup opponents after the 2-1 win over Midland Alliance newcomers Grosvenor Park at the weekend.
Goals from Alex Cowley and Peter Sutton meant United avoided a potential banana skin by inflicting Grosvenor's first defeat of the season.
The win also meant the Reds banked £1,000 for the preliminary round victory and there is £7,500 up for grabs for the winner of the First Qualifying Round tie away to either Bourne Town or Eastwood Town.
Eastwood held Lincolnshire side Bourne to a 1-1 draw on Saturday to force a replay tonight (Wednesday, ko 7.45pm).
United Counties League Premier Division side Bourne play the equivalent of a level below Redditch and Eastwood and prop up their league after straight defeats in their opening three matches.
Eastwood are sitting in mid-table in Division One of the Unibond League and are expected to win tonight although Reds boss Rod Brown will probably be hoping for an upset.
The gate receipts and winnings from wins against Halesowen Harriers and Gresley and two matches against Kettering last season brought much-needed revenue into the Valley Stadium and chairman Neil Pagett will want more of the same this time around.
The First Qualifying Round will be played on Saturday, September 14.
The manager was this week turning his thoughts back to the league with a trip to Gloucester on Saturday (ko 3pm) and the visit of Mangotsfield United on Tuesday (ko 7.45pm).
