REDS boss Rod Brown was as good as his word when he opened United's pre-season programme with nine new faces in the Reds team which went down 3-0 to Peterborough United at the weekend.
The result was of little consequence as Brown blooded most of his new-look side and demonstrated the versatile nature of his team by fielding new striker Ian McVarish at left back after the interval.
Stevenage goalkeeper Chris Taylor lent a hand with new signing Richard Anstiss unavailable.
But the other new faces look to be firm fixtures, with want-away Stourport Swifts winger Alex Cowley catching the eye.
Having agreed to go to an FA tribunal to determine the youngster's fee, United are bound to stump up whatever figure the tribunal comes up with but are also allowed to include him in their side despite protestations from Walshes Meadow.
And it was the newcomer who came closest to becoming the first player to score against Barry Fry's side this season when he stung the visiting keeper's palms.
Reds old boy Neil Manton played at right back and in central defence after his move from Sutton Coldfield Town and former Evesham right back Steve Shaw was joined in an overhauled back line by Rushall stopper Chris Homer.
Moors signing Richard Softly lined up in midfield alongside right winger Cowley and McVarish started up front before stepping into the back line.
Winger Matty Hall had a run-out after making his move from Halesowen Town permanent and his brother Anthony had an assured display in central defence after switching from Conference outfit Hereford United.
Brown was hoping to complete the signing of an unnamed Premier Division target last night (Tuesday) ahead of the visit of Alliance champions Stourbridge tomorrow (ko 7.45pm).
And the club have waived the admission fee for tomorrow night's fixture.
United entertain Nigel Clough's Conference newcomers Burton Albion on Tuesday (ko 7.45pm).
