MALVERN College will be losing one of its senior teachers when he takes on a new post as headmaster.

Robert Tims will start at St Leonard's School, St Andrews, Scotland, a co-educational independent secondary school, in September.

Mr Tims is a graduate of Jesus College, Cambridge and teaches chemistry at the independent school. He is also a principal examiner for the International Baccalaureate. He joined the staff of Malvern College, College Road, in 1978 and has also been a housemaster.

His interests include music and aviation - he holds a private pilot's licence.

"As a member of the senior management team here I have been closely involved with decision making in all areas at Malvern College, which will be a great help," said Mr Tims.

"Heidi, my wife, and I, are very excited about the new appointment and are looking forward to joining the St Andrews community to bring out the best in its young people."

St Leonard's School was founded as a girl's school in 1877 and changed to co-education in 1999. Mr Tims will be the first headmaster there as previous heads have been female principals.

"We shall miss Robert but congratulate him on his appointment and wish him every success" said Malvern College headmaster Hugh Carson.
