Mr E Buckley, Redditch Urban Council surveyor, told members of the Estates Committee on Monday that 1,789 houses had been completed in the district since the end of the war.
Of these, 1,456 were council houses, 316 had been built privately and 17 by the county council and others.
He said that 255 houses were in course of construction, 214 of which were council houses.
