WYTHALL continued their good form in the Warwickshire Summer League Division Seven at Kings Heath B.

Rob Blair and Mike Wyatt played the home first pair of Whitehouse and Word and controlled a tight first set, breaking Word's serve for a 5-4 lead.

In the second set the home pair took the net whenever possible, leaving Wyatt and Blair defending from the baseline for the majority of the games.

The set was decided by a tie-break which a Blair forehand and Wyatt volley decided to take the match 7-5, 7-6.

Wythall's second pairing of Kevin Turner and Pete Thomas played Bradley and Cobbs.

The first set saw Thomas and Bradley broken but the pairs were well matched and the tie-break was reached.

The Wythall pair took control and a sliced backhand from Turner took the set.

The second set went with serve until Cobbs had to break points against him. He saved the first but found the net on his second. Thomas held serve to win the match 7-6, 6-4.

The reverse matches saw Whitehouse and Word totally outplay Turner and Thomas in the first set to win 6-1.

The second set went with serve until 3-3 when Word was broken. The game began to swing the match Wythall's way and they closed the set 6-3.

The final set began with Turner and Thomas attacking the net at every opportunity and forcing errors from the home pair. They broke serve twice, which began to affect their opponents' morale and continued to take the set and match 6-0.

When Blair and Wyatt played Bradley and Cobbs they began well and Blair and Wyatt took control of rallies with their forehand from the baseline causing problems and were always in control of the first set and won 6-3.

The second set was similar, whenever the home pair tried to attack either Blair or Wyatt would pass or lob. Wythall won the set and match 6-3 6-1 to keep them in contention for a promotion spot.
