ON Saturday, June 21, appropriately the longest day of the year, 75 teams from law firm DLA will be simultaneously walking from John O'Groats to Lands End with the aim of raising £500,000 in just one day.

DLA's Birmingham office is tackling the 10 Midlands sections from Edale in Derbyshire to Tewkesbury in Gloucester, passing through your newspaper group's readership area.

All money raised will go to the Wellchild Trust (formerly Children Nationwide), the UK's leading medical research charity for children.

Over the past 25 years, Wellchild has made major breakthroughs in child health with invaluable results in the field of meningitis, pain management, liver disease, diabetes, sickle cell and cancer.

But they rely on voluntary donations, such as that planned by DLA, to continue their research and provide care.

As a former editor of your paper, I would like to appeal for sponsorship from any kind-hearted reader. I shall be walking the Stourport to Kempsey stretch - at 16.25 miles longer than the average 15 mile section but dead flat (I'm not daft!).

Any donations gratefully received. Please send cheques made payable to Wellchild, email me at andy@marketingmanagement.fsnet.co.uk or you can call me on 01527 892004.
