MIKE Rogers took the first hat-trick of his senior career as Droitwich Spa went second behind Kington in Worcestershire County League division one with a thrilling last ball victory at Bromyard.
Rogers, who also missed the third ball for a second hat-trick 24 hours later, made the piece of history while taking the final five Bromyard wickets last Saturday, as the hosts were reduced from 159-5 to 175 all out.
He becomes the second Spa bowler this season to achieve the treble following Martin Woodward's heroics in a friendly match with Bridgnorth last month.
Rogers, returning to the side, was aided by Mike Gunston (4-38), who took his second four-wicket haul in as many weeks while Karl Goddard claimed the other wicket.
Paul Bryan was the batting hero, hitting four from the final ball to hand Steve Walsh's side a one-wicket victory.
Walsh won the toss and put Bromyard in. Goddard, making his first appearance of the season, struck fist before Gunston accounted for four batsmen, including Pakistani one-day international Saeed.
Bromyard's dangerous opener Ashley Bullock chipped away at the tight bowling, but Rogers stepped in to destroy the lower order. Bullock hit 90 not out as the hosts closed on 175.
Spa's reply was littered with weak shots and at 41-5 the game was slipping away.
However, Paul Bryan and Goddard had other ideas and continued to chip away in determined fashion.
Goddard's strokes were sublime and the left-handed Bryan used his class to score all around the ground.
The stand was worth 95 before Goddard was run out for a personal Saturday best of 58.
The game was in the balance at 136-6 with 40 required in the last ten overs.
Bryan continued to hit cleanly and partners came and went before seven runs were needed from the final over with two wickets intact.
With the rapid Saeed bowling in failing light, Woodward was bowled without offering a shot, leaving Spa needing four runs from three balls.
That quickly became three from the last ball with Bryan (63no) on strike. With every fielder on the boundary Bryan coolly played a sublime square cut to dissect the despairing fielders for four.
l On Sunday, Spa's First XI comfortably defeated Old Vigornians by 188 runs at St Peter's Field.
After a poor start, Rogers showed he was just as good with the bat, scoring 73 as Droitwich posted 179.
He then capped a fine weekend with 4-15, this time missing the third ball for another hat-trick, as the visitors collapsed to 58 all out.
Gary Cartwight also saw a hat-trick slip away at the crucial moment.
