THE Woodlands View Affordable open starts this week's results on Tuesday, June 3.
Topping the strong line up was Keith Harrison (Coneheads) who pole fished luncheon meat at Arles Pool peg 23 to take a 45-1-0 catch. Alan Jones (DGL) was second with 43-5-0 while third Ken Giles (Starlets Vets), taking 36-10-0.
Also at Woodlands View were the Northfield Starlets Veterans on Barley and Hay pools. In form Mick Scott (Bewdley) was the clear winner with a 63-0-0 catch taken with pole-fished worms from Hay peg 16. Brian Hill (Stourport) was second with 40-9-0; third, Harold Willey (Kidderminster), 39-6-0.
On Wednesday evening the Lodge Park series began with the top three places going to host club members. In first place was Mick Wootton who fished a running method feeder at peg 41 to take eight Carp for 34-13-0. Rob Bishop followed with 25-12-0 from next door peg 40 and third was John Sumner's 23-4-0.
Steve Pickup (Fisherman's Friend) won the Meadow pool open at Moorlands Farm with a pole, chopped worm and caster catch of 73-5-0 from peg 39. Close on his heels was Harry Ward (Moorlands) with 70-0-0 and third, Steve Juliff (Pershore), 67-5-0.
Thursday's Meadow pool open went to Wayne Mellings (Fosters Tipton) by pole fishing chopped worms and casters up in the water at peg 22 for 92-4-0. Runner-up Dave Bennett (Stourbridge) had 82-10-0; third, Dave Dutton (Moorlands), 81-6-0.
The KH Veterans held their event on Elmbridge Fisheries' Heron Pool and it was Macaroni cheese, together with red meat, that did the trick for Willey (Kidderminster), taking 69-4-0 from peg 36. Scott (Bewdley) just missed the double with 59-8-0. Roger Banfield (Kidderminster) was third with 47-12-0.
The Midland Bears Disabled AA were on Woodlands View's Ghost pool which saw Ziggy Lees (Charford) take the honours by pole fishing corn and meat at peg 25 for 45-8-0. Second was Bert Sutton (Great Barr) with 34-8-0 and third, Bill Wilson (Birmingham), taking 30-0-0.
Woodlands View's Friday afternoon Deans Pool open was won by Klaus Fix (Tek Neek Trabucco) with an 83-14-0 Carp catch, taken with pole, corn and meat from peg 58. Second, Mark Westwood (Woodlands), had 69-14-0 with third going to Pickup (Fishermans Friend) with 59-10-0.
On Saturday, former world champion Alan Scotthorne (Mustad Shimano) just missed the ton when he put 97-14-0 on the scales to win the Ghost pool open with pole, worm and casters from peg five. Dean Cherrington (Sensas Midland Match) was second with 66-10-0 and third, Sean McCarthy, (Pill Angling) with 60-4-0.
Woodlands View also played host for the Embassy Ladies National Championships where weights are recorded in kilos and grams. Leading the local Starlets AS team to glory was Helen Dagnall with 41 kilos 300 grams, taken with pole, meat and corn from Deans pool peg 64. Team mate Julie Abbott helped with 21 kilos 140 grams and third went to Sandra Scotthorne (Doncaster AA) with 21 kilos 40 grams. Trophy winners were Starlets AS (91 kilos 160 grams) with Doncaster AA runners-up (55 kilos 60 grams).
At Broad Acres, the main lake open was won by Bill Drew (Solihull Angling) with a pole and meat catch of 29-6-0 from peg 7. Second was Andy Tryndei (Triplex) 27-14-0 and joint third were Brian Williams (Astwood) and Pete Sandford (Bronx) both with 23-7-0.
The Moorlands Farm Ultimate League final was staged over two four-hour matches last Saturday and a five-hour event on Sunday.
Saturday mornings match went to Lee Nutland (Mosella) with 62-4-0 from Meadow pool peg 39; second, Mal Watson (Shakespeare), 60-7-0; third, Kieron Rich (Tricast), 46-14-0.
Neil McKinnon (Shakespeare) headed the afternoon event with 71-5-0 from Meadow peg 55; second, Pete Whitehouse (Strike Angling), 54-11-0; third, Lee Richards (Fosters MG), 53-6-0.
Sunday saw Rich show the way with 84-5-0 from Meadow peg 45 with McKinnon second with 67-11-0 and third, David James, taking (Trabucco).
McKinnon was crowned Ultimate League champion, pocketing £3,300 for a maximum three points tally. Nutland was second with four points and a total weight of 183-7-0, taking a purse of £2,200. Rich was third with four points and a total weight of 167-7-0 earning him £1,200.
The regular Moorlands Farm Sunday open was won by Ian Lockley (Map Starlets) who pole fished casters and worms on the Silver Carp pool peg 18 for 72-8-0. Second was Alan James' (Moorlands) 37-7-0; third, Simon Williams (Fosters Tipton), 37-1-0.
Astwood Fisheries' Buddleia Pool open was topped by Alan Higgs (Smithies Tackle) with 25-14-0 of Carp and Tench, caught with pole and meat from peg 55. Tony Richards (Hobsons Choice) took 20-3-0 for second with third going to Pete Bailey's (Droitwich Angling Centre) 19-1-0.
The first round of the Birmingham Civil Service summer league was held on the Grand Union Canal in Knowle. Bream featured in all leading weights with Mark Warley latching into five, plus Roach and Perch for a winning 12-14-0. Second, Darren Mills 7-8-0; third, Roy Blud, 7-2-0.
Rounding off a busy week was the Woodlands View afternoon open. Fix (Tek Neek Trabucco) made it a double victory by pole fishing corn and meat at Deans pool peg 42 for 139-7-0 of Carp. Antony Rogers (Preston Inovation) was second with 104-5-0; third, Nigel Plumb (Shimano Portway), 94-14-0.
