HAVING read Councillor David Barlow's comments in the (Evening News, June 4) I felt I had to respond.
In the past, I have spoken out against fireworks being set off indiscriminately in Worcester (including being quoted in your paper a few years ago concerning the person who was setting off fireworks in St John's).
However, on this occasion I must disagree with Coun Barlow.
First, the fireworks only lasted 15 minutes. Hardly a prolonged display.
Secondly, as Simon Monk from Radio Wyvern correctly pointed out, there was plenty of publicity stating that there would be fireworks.
Indeed, a firework display after a classical outdoors concert is rapidly becoming the norm in today's society.
"Goodness knows, I'm not a killjoy" says Councillor Barlow, protesting far too much. And no doubt he was indeed killing joy at the time.
Yes, admittedly the fireworks were very loud. But to accuse people of a "wanton disregard" is wholly over the top.
And frankly, if the noise rattled Coun Barlow's window panes, might I suggest he considers buying new windows as I live closer to the County Ground than he does and my windows were absolutely fine!
