TOWNSFOLK are being urged to dig out their walking boots and get on the path to a healthier lifestyle.

Bromsgrove's walking co-ordinator Steve Barlow is inviting everyone to join the summer 'Walks for Health' programme.

"Please come along and join us. We want to encourage people to get out and walk, especially those suffering from heart disease and those who have had heart attacks and strokes," he said.

A special launch party for the programme will be held this Saturday at the Housman Statue in High Street and at Sanders Park in Kidderminster Road.

Starting at 11am, there will be a walk from the statue, which will take in the launch exhibition at the park's pavilion. The display will be full of information about the programme and how walking can improve your health.

Exhibits will include displays from the Primary Care Trust, Age Concern, Bromsgrove Ramblers and Bromsgrove District Council's leisure services department.

A country walk will start at Sanders Park at 1.30pm and there will be a shorter, taster walk around the park between 12.30 and 1.30pm.

Bromsgrove Walks for Health was set up by the town's Walking Partnership, which includes the district council, the PCT, Age Concern, Bromsgrove Ramblers Association and the Countryside Agency. Anyone wishing to know more about the launch or the walks programme, should contact Steve at Sanders Park on 015827 832148.
