CREATIVE children used an array of mediums to produce masterpieces for the Spa's annual art competition.

Droitwich Spa Town Council received more than 100 entries from budding Picassos who were keen to enter the annual Heart of England contest.

The contest aims to promote the environment and this year youngsters from a range of youth organisations were asked to work on the theme of wild flowers.

Normally only paintings are accepted but the contest was open to any medium and clever use of pencil, pens, crayons and even computers wowed the judges,

Artwork was divided into two age groups.

Phoebe Clayton, of Whitford Hall and Dodderhill School, in Crutch Lane, scooped top prize in the age four to seven category, while Josella Hunt, of Chawson First School, achieved top ranking in the eight to 11 years section.

Last Thursday, Mayoress Jan Bolton (Con - East) gave out gift vouchers or certificates to the winners and the six runners up.

The competition runs in conjunction with Droitwich Spa in Bloom efforts, which are organised by a local working party.

The pick of the bunch now goes onto the regional finals.
