THE town's new fortnightly street market got off to an 'encouraging start' on Saturday.
Curious shoppers flocked to Victoria Square where Sketts Ltd had set up more than 30 stalls selling a range of wares.
Droitwich Spa Association for Retail, Tourism and Services (DARTS) teamed up with Wychavon District Council and Droitwich Spa Town Council, to bring the extra traders into the town.
DARTS chairman Richard Brighton said turnout was good and many stallholders were eager to return on June 21.
"It was very well organised by Sketts and I believe, it was an encouraging start," said Mr Brighton.
"Our next step is to further promote the event among residents and in neighbouring towns. I hope it will be supported by local people and become a popular fixture," he added.
High Street trader Adrian Hibell, of SPATS Coffee House, said the event did not increase trade at his business.
Mr Hibell added: "It's a shame the market can't be held in the High Street because it would be great for the independent traders who are often forgotten about."
