Alvechurch - An accident of a serious character befell George Miles, a youth employed at the Patent Brick Works on Monday.
The youth was employed to fill a hopper with marl but having a few minutes to spare he descended onto forbidden ground where strict instructions are laid down that youths are not to go.
By some means his foot was caught in a cog wheel and was carried upwards coming into contact with an iron bar which acts as a preventative against accidents at this spot.
The foot was severely crushed and fractured and necessitated his removal to the Smallwood Hospital where it was found necessary to amputate it.
Had it not been for the bar something more serious might have happened.
