March 31, 1978
The official wind-up date for Redditch new town has now been set for June 31, 1982.
Redditch Development Corporation will then cease to exist and the town will be handed over to the Commission for New Towns.
Corporation housing is already set to be handed over to Redditch District Council in April 1981.
After that, all rents will be paid to Redditch Council.
The exact date was given in a Commons written reply by the Environment secretary Mr Peter Shore, who also gave the winding-up dates for seven other new towns.
Last April, Mr Shore ended months of speculation when he said he could find "no initiatives" for further expansion of the town and indicated that it was likely to be wound up about 1982.
