Redditch councillors are puzzled because the drainage system on the football field at the Valley Stadium - Redditch FC's ground - is still not taking the water away quickly enough despite the fact that about £1,700 has been spent on laying drains, ashes and re-seeding the field.
A deputation from the football club asked the Urban Council parks and open spaces committee on Tuesday to consider a scheme for raising the centre of the field so that water would run from the crown to the ditches on the wings.
Councillor H D Spencer said: "I can't understand why that drainage system would work.
"The water won't percolate through the clay and whatever we do, finance is going to be important."
It was decided the surveyor should go into the matter and report back to the next meeting.
