PROMPT action by Studley Fire Brigade under Sub-Officer H Ireland saved Mrs D Gibson of 43 Station Road, Studley, from unnecessary suffering after she had been overcome by fumes when the chimney at her home caught fire last Sunday morning.
The firemen gave her first aid and prevented any further damage from the chimney fire.
It is understood that Mrs Gibson was alone in the house at the time.
Mr Ireland told a reporter that the Studley brigade was on its way to a hydrant inspection at Sambourne when he saw smoke coming from the house.
On investigating, he and his colleagues found Mrs Gibson almost overcome by fumes.
"It appears that a large quantity of soot had fallen when the chimney caught fire and the room was full of smoke," he said.
