THE possible serious consequences of a foul chimney being set on fire were very forcibly shown on Saturday night in the outbreak which occurred in a cottage at the top of Ipsley Street near the Plough and Harrow.
Some mystery surrounds the cause of the outbreak, the occupiers' explanation being that a sheet of paper which had been used as a drawplate caught fire and was drawn into the foul chimney setting it on fire.
Whatever the cause, the fire looked alarming enough at one time.
The property is very old and most people present were of the opinion that if it had not been for the prompt action of the fire brigade, the whole row would soon have been ablaze.
