A shooting case of a very painful and somewhat sensational nature occurred in Redditch on Saturday night.
At about 7 o'clock in the evening, the startling report gained currency that Percy Dominick, who lodged with Mrs Andrews in Grove Street, had shot himself through the body after first attempting to murder his former sweetheart, Miss Emily Hollington, living with her parents at 73 Prospect Road, and that he had been removed to the Smallwood Hospital in a dying condition.
Enquiries showed, however, that these reports were happily incorrect with regards to the shooting of Miss Hollington.
It appears from the statement of Mrs Andrews that the unfortunate young man has been in the habit of reading a lot of trashy sensational literature with which every news shop and bookstall is nowadays crowded.
The desperate act, there can be no doubt, was due to a disappointment in a love affair.
Dominick had been keeping company with Miss Hollington for some two or three years. Some weeks back, the young people had a difference and parted.
