When the Duke of Edinburgh opened the Cycle and Motor Cycle Show at Earls Court, London, on Saturday, he was presented with a bicycle made in Redditch for his son, Prince Charles, who celebrated his fourth birthday the day before.
The presentation was made by Major F W Smith, chairman and managing director of the Enfield Cycle Co Ltd, makers of the machine.
The presentation was the idea of the British Cycle and Motor Cycles Manufacturers' and Traders' Union Ltd and Enfield was chosen by ballot.
At the request of the Queen, the bicycle was made without special features and is basically one of the Enfield production models.
