MR Leonard D Millar of the Ridgeway, Astwood Bank, has resigned after five-and-a-half years as editor of the Redditch Indicator & Alcester Chronicle and may well leave the district later in the year.
A native of Redditch, he was educated at St Stephen's Boys School and joined the staff as a junior reporter under the lead of Mr H Guise in 1930.
He became chief reporter nine years later and in 1940 joined the army.
After two-and-a-half years' service with the Pioneer Corps during which he reached the rank of CQMS, he was invalided out and joined the laboratory staff at High Duty Alloys Ltd as a spectrographic analyst.
Subsequently, he became chief spectroscopist and deputy works chemist at the firm's Redditch factory.
He relinquished that post in April 1947 to become editor of the two newspapers.
