VICE President Brenda Jenkins welcomed members to the June meeting, telling first of how she enjoyed her visit to the Lowry Exhibition at Salford.
Secretary Marge Clovin read minutes from the previous meeting, ending with notices and correspondence. A letter was received from member Derri Robins who has left the district to live in Leominster. An account of the Spring Craft Day Exhibition at Bewdley was given by Betty Pickering. Brenda hoped we would all fill in the questionnaire given to members and to be returned by Thursday, July 31.
A summer outing to the Avoncroft Museum is planned for Wednesday, July 16. June Cant reported about the team of members playing bowls. Roma Punt announced details about the craft, saying that a display of member's work would be on show at the next meeting. Brenda then introduced the speaker for the afternoon.
Mr John Fletcher talked about the Roy Castle fight against cancer, relating many true life stories about raising thousands of pounds in many different ways towards a research centre.
Mr Fletcher gave us an insight about the acre of The Macmillan and Marie Curie Nurses with many friends hoping to raise enough money for Kemp Hospice in Kidderminster.
Mr Fletcher closed his talk reading a poem from a book of poems composed by some of the people with cancer he had met, during his ambition to do more for research and mentioning famous people helping in the cause. After tea, organised by Barbara, Molly and helpers, the raffle was drawn. Brenda closed the meeting ending a most interesting afternoon.
