A GREEK woman is working in Droitwich Spa to take travellers off the tourist trail and into the heart of her nation's culture.
Fenia Papadopoulou is hosting free language and culture classes at Droitwich Youth House, in Old Coach Road, during July and August. The first lesson was held on Monday.
The 25-year-old from North Greece came to the UK last year and through the European Voluntary Service Project, she's been caring for a disabled Worcester man and improving her English skills.
Fenia's practical classes are a final project before returning home and she has received some financial support towards it from the British Council.
"We will be learning basic language skills, but also discussing Greek culture and maybe even cooking," she said.
"Greece is a wonderful country but often people only see the tourist spots. It has so much more to offer and I think my classes could be very interesting."
They will run every Monday, between 11am and 1pm and spaces are still available. Classes are also being held at Worcester Youth House, every Wednesday, from 11am.
Alphabet
Fenia, who currently lives in Worcester, said the Greek language is very easy to learn, once students have the alphabet sussed.
She hopes to become an English teacher when she jets back to her sunnier homeland. Call Fenia on 07905 915090 for further details.
