A PETITION to protect community chemists from closure has been laid bare in Parliament by the town's MP.
MP Peter Luff wants support for chemists serving housing estates and small rural communities.
He believes they help people with transport issues and take a burden off GPs.
Mr Luff has lobbied the Government to reject proposals that would remove barriers blocking the creation of retail pharmacies. The Tory whip fears this could lead to supermarkets dominating the market.
During parliamentary questions on Thursday (July 3), he showed politicians the massive pile of petition forms sent to him by pharmacies in Droitwich and Evesham.
Government chiefs assured him proposals would be tabled before the summer recess on July 17, that will open up the market - without diminishing the role of community pharmacies.
The Mid-Worcestershire representative said: "Community pharmacies have done a tremendous job bringing this issue to the attention of the government."
