CARNIVAL capers captured the hearts of Spa families over the weekend.
Young and old turned out to support the town's first parade since 1996.
Organisers hailed the weekend a success and are already thinking about next year's event. Chief organiser Gordon Hughes told the Advertiser: "It went extremely well.
"There are so many thanks to make - especially the police, Wychavon District Council, Round Table, Rotary and our army of volunteers. I will be de-briefing the committee shortly and then we can begin looking at carnival 2004."
Fun began with a fair and rock concert on Friday, followed by the procession, events and live music in St George's Playing Fields on Saturday. Shoppers in Victoria Square, where town markets were also running, lined the street to get a glimpse of floats, carnival queen Stephanie Warburton and walking groups.
Entertainment continued into Sunday when thrill-seekers were invited to a water festival and raft race in Vines Park.
Reviving the traditional carnival was the brainchild of former mayor Terry Spencer. He was delighted to see the dream realised and said the only problems were caused by a handful of youths on Friday at the playing fields. "They were dealt with quickly by police," added the Tory town councillor.
Current town mayor, Councillor Jan Bolton (Con - East) praised organisers and said it was a very special weekend. Donations are still being counted. Profits will go to local charities.
