ON June 11, the society embarked on a new venture. Until now all outings have been on a Saturday but it has been decided to try a midweek trip. This proved almost as popular.
Very few members had heard of Chastleton House in the Cotswolds before and what a surprise it was.
It is one of England's finest and most complete Jacobean houses, filled with a mixture of rare and everyday objects, furniture and textiles collected since its completion.
It was built between 1607 and 1612 by Walter Jones, a wealthy wool merchant and lawyer, whose descendants remained in occupation until 1991.
It even possessed a small Sheldon tapestry and a further delight was the 12th century church next door where tea and cakes were on offer.
Thanks to the secretary for arranging such an interesting and unusual visit.
The next outing on July 12, will be to Erddig, near Wrexham. All new members are welcome. For details call 541317.
