SAVE THE CHILDREN: On Saturday, June 21, the Festival Players from Cranham presented their summer production of The Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare, on the Village Green in Evenlode. Members of the audience were invited to bring their own seating and picnic to enjoy prior to the performance. The committee was delighted with the success of the evening when more than 160 people attended. Most of the audience arrived in good time to bask in the early evening sunshine before settling down to enjoy an entertaining production. Although a few odd spots of rain during the evening produced several umbrellas and black sacks, they did nothing to detract from the fun.
This was the first time such an event had been organised in the village and the committee has expressed its thanks to Evenlode Parish Council for giving permission for the use of the village green and to all of the parishioners for their support and co-operation during the performance. The sum of £790 was raised for the charity from the evening - an excellent reason for repeating the evening next year.
Fund-raising activities for the autumn will include a fish and chip supper, a race evening and a Christmas Fair.
