HARVINGTON SINGERS: Harvington Singers Summer Concert, entitled Gloria, which took place in St James' church last Friday evening, was a great success and prompted some pleasing comments from the choir's loyal supporters. The programme included Vivaldi's Gloria which was the most ambitious piece of work attempted thus far, and a delighted conductor Peter Harrison felt that he had been justified in persuading the Singers to tackle it. He and accompanist John Langley, together with other choir members and helpers, were thanked for their hard work and commitment by chairman Richard Sharp.

Flowers were presented to the three visiting vocalists - Susan Gadsby, Carol Gregory and Christina Lea, whose contribution to the event had been of immeasurable value, and this generous gesture will be repeated when the choir performs again on July 18, this time as guests at Charlton Church. Rehearsals will start again in September for the Christmas concert and any newcomers should watch for notification of the date or contact the chairman on 01386 870231.

GARDEN PARTY: The garden party at Harvington First School last Thursday afternoon was well supported by parents and friends who dutifully tried out all the games and competitions planned and presented by the children. The weather was perfect, the children's efforts entertaining and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly, so it is hoped that the response proved generous and that school funds received substantial benefit from an event which well deserved to be a big success.

All who are interested are reminded that the Leavers' Service will be held in the school hall this year on Sunday, July 20, at 9.30am, the church service being duly cancelled.
