CYCLING: Wyre Forest Cycle Racing Club rider Steve Burns raced to an impressive third place in the Beacon CC 10-mile time trial at Wythall on Saturday.
In the perfect conditions, Burns stormed around the course in a superb 21 minutes 32 seconds behind overall winner Darren Willetts in 20-20.
Tony Richardson was the next club rider back with a fine 22-17 and Stourport's Liam Callaghan had another strong ride with 23-09.
Chris Poole clocked a personal best time of 24-05 and veteran Mick Gray improved his season's record time by more than a minute to finish in 27-24.
Rob Cole was in superb form on Wednesday evening, finally beating the hour for 25 miles in the South Wales Police CC time trial at Glenneath.
On a windy night, Cole finished the course in a personal best time of 59-29.
In the club time trial competition, Liam Preece set the fastest time on the hilly 14-mile Astley circuit to finish in 35-28.
Preece was followed by Joe Rowe, 36-25, Len Holbeche, 36-39, James Smith, 38-21, Richard Pedersen, 42-56, Alan Colburn, 43-09, Steve Clews, 45-17, Gray, 46-36, and Mike Nicol, 48-45.
The victory helped the Stourport teenager extend his overall lead in the series, while Rowe heads the veterans competition.
