AFTER reading letters in the Shuttle/Times and News over a number of weeks about rottweilers, I am completely outraged and cannot keep quiet any longer.

In letter after letter we read about people's attitudes towards such a wonderful breed of dog. We ourselves have had rottweilers for a number of years and the one we now own is just four months old.

After researching the breed at great length we have discovered the great rottweiler is one of the cleverest and most loyal of all dog breeds. They are faithful to their family and will protect when threatened. Moreover, they are a child's best friend especially when they have grown up together.

It's not the dog's fault that owners do not understand the breed and know how they need to be handled.

Dogs, any dog in fact, will react to other people and dogs in the way they have been brought up to react.

Any dog will be aggressive if not socialised at the right times in their lives and have not come into contact with many people.

We are proud to own a rottweiler and it really upsets us the way they are portrayed as a big bad mean machine that no-one should own. In fact some people think the breed should be extinct!

My husband and I would like to take this opportunity to tell all you rottweiler haters that it's not the dogs' fault how they have been brought up to behave - it's quite clear it's the owners who are at fault.
