ADRIAN Bird (Arctic 2000) outclassed the opposition to win Worcester St John's 14.5 mile hilly cycle time trial by over four minutes.
Bird blasted round the tough Suckley-based circuit in 34.32 leaving Saint's Chris McSweeney and Kevin May to fight a distant scrap for second and third places with McSweeney beating May by just one second to clock 38.37.
Fourth placed Dave Walker was just 15 seconds behind May with 38.53. Top veteran was Dave Campbell, making a welcome return to racing on a new bike, with 40.50.
In the women's competition, Sarah Emerson suffered a rare defeat, the hills not being to her liking. Helen Wooton clocked 45.16 making her nine seconds faster than Emmerson.

n After the death of well-known Worcester character Bob Short from cancer in May, Worcester St John's Cycling club are pleased to announce that collections at the funeral and funds left by Bob have so far raised £800.
The money is to be split between Cancer Research, Marie Curie Foundation and the Dave Rayner Fund, which raises money to help finance promising British young riders gain top flight experience in foreign racing teams.
Anyone interested in purchasing Bob's bikes can see them at Worcester Cycle Centre.
