A CAMPAIGN by Bewdley Trade Justice , which promotes fairer trade in the Third World, has resulted in more than 40 signed postcards being sent to Tony Blair.
Supporters of the national Trade Justice movement were joined by the town's mayor, Jeremy Ferguson, when they spent two hours collecting signatures on postcards and handing out leaflets.
The cards asked Tony Blair to take a lead in making a commitment to the rewriting of international trade rules.
The campaigners also lobbied Wyre Forest MP Dr Richard Taylor.
Ann Capell, Bewdley Trade Justice campaigner and a member of the congregation at St Anne's Church, said the group hoped to influence the World Trade Organisation's next meeting in September.
She said it was a case of raising awareness in the town and was part of a campaign involving more than 40 organisations including The Mother's Union, Women's Institute, Oxfam and Christian Aid.
Members of Bewdley Baptist Church also sponsored former St Anne's First School pupil Alice Crawford to complete a 10-mile cycle ride.
Instead of giving money to the seven-year-old, they agreed to write to Tony Blair. Alice collected more than 100 sponsors.
