A STREET is to be named after a much-loved character who was affectionately dubbed "Mr Kidderminster".
Ray Mercer Way will feature in the new housing development on the former cattle market site in Aggborough, the ward in which Mr Mercer was a district councillor.
It is also just a few yards away from the home of Kidderminster Harriers where he served as secretary for 20 years and where his ashes were buried after his death in 1995 aged 73.
The former registrar of births, death and marriages will now be remembered with the naming of the street on the Miller Homes development.
Kidderminster mayor and district councillor for Aggborough Helen Dyke said: "As the ward councillor for the area, a firm stalwart of the Harriers, a very well known man of our town and a fellow Liberal Democrat, I am pleased Ray is to be recognised in this way.
"I hope his family and friends will be pleased with this naming."
