SPORTSMEN game for a laugh are being sought to take part in an 18th century cricket match at Witley Court.
Wyre Forest players are needed to pit their wits against visitors in the match on Sunday, July 27.
The game, to be played in full Georgian costumes to 18th century rules, is being billed as one of the highlights of the English Heritage summer events and will start at 2pm.
It is part of a day of activities starting at 11am, which include stalls, crafts and sideshows at the ruined stately home.
English Heritage organiser and historian Julian Humphrys, said the match is also an opportunity for players to raise money for their favourite charities.
He said: "Essentially this event is all about having fun.
"But it could be a good opportunity for groups or individuals to raise money for charity by getting people to sponsor them for every run they make."
He also warned intrepid sportsmen that 21st century and 18th century cricket were two completely different games.
"The flexible rules of today are very different," he explained.
"Underarm bowling, curved hats and two stumps instead of three were the norm, there was no LBW rule or boundaries and the wearing of pads was considered unmanly."
Betting and bribery also featured in the Georgian game, which saw players dressed in tight breeches to the knee, long stockings and white frilly shirts.
Mr Humphrys added: "On one notorious occasion a leading English player turned up with a bat that was wider than the wicket.
"It was definitely a time when the saying 'It's just not cricket' was not appropriate."
