THERE are 29 Conservators. Eleven are elected to represent the six parishes of Malvern, West Malvern, Malvern Wells, Guarlford, Colwall and Mathon. 18 are appointed by other authorities, namely Worc-estershire County Council, Here-fordshire Council, Malvern Hills District Council, the Church Commissioners and Mathon Parish Council.
Roughly half the Conservators' land lies within the six parishes. The other half lies elsewhere within the confines of the other authorities.
In the last ten years taxpayers in the six parishes have paid £2,558,457 in precepts to the Conservators. The other authorities have paid contributions totally £66,880.
Is there a single county councillor, district councillor or conservator representing taxpayers in the six parishes who is able and willing to explain why this is a fair and reasonable arrangement? I expect a deafening silence.
ALISTAIR MACMILLAN, Alexandra Lane, Malvern.
