CALLOW End's new pub-based post office opens for business on August 1.

Based at The Blue Bell, it will provide the village with a post office for the first time since spring 2002, when Alan Richardson's shop closed.

New sub-postmaster Paul Curnock said he and his wife, Ann, were delighted to finally get the project up and running.

Mr Curnock said the bureaucracy they had to deal with had been so tortuous that at times they had considered giving up.

"It's taken a lot of effort to get this going," he said. "We're very pleased."

The new post office, which will be in a separate room at the pub, will be open from 9am to 1pm and 2pm to 5.30pm weekdays and 9am to 12.30pm on Saturdays.

It will have all the facilities normally available at a sub-post office, from selling stamps to issuing pensions.

An official opening ceremony takes place on August 11 with Malvern Hills District Council leader Tom Wells.
