THE river season is in full flow and the Malvern United Angling Association's Wednesday evening Sandford series is being dominated by Worcester match star Paul Bick.

Having relinquished his title last season for the first time in five years Paul is making no mistake this time, winning the last three rounds.

At the first round, fished on the Avon at Birlingham, Paul was drawn on peg 28 where he fished chopped worm tactics close to some lilypads to take a nice tench of 3-15-0 and some bits for 5-4-0.

In second place was match secretary Ian Goddard with 1-11-0. Third spot went to 'Buzz' Busby with 1-3-0.

Next time out on the Avon, Paul adopted the same tactics and was similarly rewarded with a bigger tench of 4-0-0 plus a few bleak from peg 33.

In second place was last year's series winner Steve Davies with 3-1-0. And third was Steve's travelling partner Alan Lancett with 2-1-0.

The latest round was held on the Severn and Paul showed his adaptability to take the contest once again with 3-13-0 of skimmers from peg 13.

Close behind in second place was former chairman Dennis Flanagan with a similar net for 3-10-0. Ian Goddard took third with 3-0-0.

The popular Saturday Scramble series is also underway and the latest round was held on the Avon.

Blazing sun and clear waters hampered competitors and Richard Webster needed only 3-8-0 to win the contest. Richard used feeder tactics to take eels and perch in his winning net.

Close behind in second was Barry Hill with 3-0-0. Consistent Ian Goddard took third place with 2-0-0

The second cup contest of the season was held on the Avon last Sunday, and saw a definite upturn in sport with most of the field weighing in over 2lbs.

Chris Loveridge took the cup with 5-4-0, Chris drew peg 13 and caught two nice skimmers of around two pounds apiece on open end feeder tactics with red maggot.

'Buzz' Busby was second with a mixed net of eels perch and skimmers for 3-2-0 from peg 27.

Rocket Ron Thomas rolled back the years to frame once again this season with 2-14-0 from peg 4.

The next club contest is a Saturday Scramble this weekend on the Severn draw 3pm.

The club is running an outing to Kings Sedgemoor Drain at Parchey in Somerset on August 10. The venue offers good roach, bream and the occasional tench.
