CHASE schoolboy Daniel Hartmann will collect his second England shirt in a year when he travels to Northern Ireland this Autumn for the Junior Home International Orienteering Championships.
Daniel, aged 14, of Eaton Road, Malvern Wells, was astonished and delighted to be picked having had a mixed bag of performances at selection races in the past six months.
Fortunately, his best results came at the most prestigious event of the year, the JK International Orienteering Festival held at Easter near Henley on Thames. After two day of competition Daniel finished in second place, just eight second down on Scottish Champion Callum Coombs, in the 14 and under class.
In March Daniel travelled to Arnhem in Holland as part of the England Squad which won the Interland international orienteering match against Belgium, Germany and Holland.
At the beginning of the summer holidays he will be on his travels again having been selected to join the World Class Start Selection Tour to Lagganlia, Scotland
Anyone who would like to try this exciting adventure sport has an excellent local opportunity this Sunday (July 13) at Eastnor Park when Daniel's local club, Harlequins are hosting an open 'colour-coded' event suitable for everyone from children, families and beginners to experienced athletes.
Starts will be from 10.30am until 12.30pm and full details are available on the Harlequins web site: www.harlequins.org.uk.
