WORCESTERSHIRE County Cricket Club and David Leatherdale have agreed a new contract for the 2004 season.

'Lugsy' has played for the first XI since 1988 and was capped in 1994. He has scored 9,857 runs and taken 128 wickets in first class cricket and 4,178 runs and 137 wickets in one-day.

Earlier this season in the C & G Trophy match against Yorkshire, he won the man-of-the-match award with his highest ever one day score of 80. For many people the highlight of his career was his 5-10 against Australia in 1997.

Leatherdale said: "I am delighted to have agreed a new contract for the 2004 season extending my association with the club to some 18 years.

"I look forward to being part of a developing and progressive squad which I and the club hope will be challenging for honours on a regular basis."

New Road Director of Cricket Tom Moody is also pleased to have secured the all-rounder's services: "David is an integral member of our squad and I am thrilled he has agreed future terms with the club," he said.
