SOUSA and his wonderful band were at the Assembly Rooms yesterday. This was the first visit of the band to Malvern, but the success attained was so satisfactory that we expect another opportunity of listening to this talented company of performers at some future date. The fact that on such a fine afternoon, the large hall and corridor should have been so well filled is a great testimony to the popularity which Sousa and his world-renowned band enjoys. The whole of the programme was received with much heartiness. Malvern News, July 11, 1903.
Reginald Bennett was charged with driving a motor cycle on the highway between Ledbury and Ross at a greater speed than 12 miles an hour. PC Yapp, at the Ledbury Petty Sessions, said he was stationed at the fourth milestone, and PC Williams at the fifth, previous to which they had compared the times of their watches. Defendant admitted going over 12 miles an hour, but not nearly at the pace stated, of 42 miles an hour. Ledbury Free Press, July 14, 1903.

MALVERN friends on Saturday sent telegrams of congratulation to Wilfrid Noyce, one of the Everest climbers who arrived home the previous day. They included one from Dr W McLean, medical officer of Malvern College, who took part in the 1933 Everest expedition. Another was sent on behalf of Malvern Writers' Circle, of which Mr Noyce was a founder member. Malvern Gazette, July 10, 1953.
"A picturesque little town of unquestionable beauty and immense historic value". This was the conclusion of commercial artist Miss Marjory Bates, of Nottingham, who visited Ledbury this week. She expressed her delight in finding one of few towns "so completely unspoiled by industrialisation". Ledbury Reporter, July 17, 1953.

HEAVY rain on Saturday meant that the Dyson Perrins CE High School summer fete, organised by the Parents Association, had to be held in the school building instead of the school grounds for the second successive year. But the weather did little to affect attendance figures, which were slightly up on last year. And a profit of over £700 was made through the fete, part of which will be used to buy a litho press for the school's art department. Malvern Gazette, July 13, 1978.
Ledbury could lose the offer of another piece of play equipment for its Recreation Ground, if it fails to conquer its vandalism problems. Mr Tom Bot, managing director of Treelinks, who arranged the gift of £5,000 worth of play equipment, warned that unless it could be reasonably maintained, another site in another town might have to be found. Ledbury Reporter, June 13, 1978.
