ON a wicket that always looked likely to take spin, Colwall were disappointed to lose the toss and be asked to field.
COLWALL v TROWBRIDGE
However after just 32 overs, with the visitor's total at 112-8, and Colwall clearly in command of the game, the well-paced innings of Trowbridge's Holbrook changed the complexion of the game.
Good bowling from the seamers and alert fielding tied down the batsmen. Smart work from Fergusson behind the stumps, who finished with five victims, and the strangle hold exerted by the wily Sutton's off breaks left Trowbridge reeling.
Two chances came and went as Holbrook accelerated and Colwall were left ruing the ninth wicket partnership of 50 in 14 overs.
Colwall's top three looked in sparkling form. Each striking crisp boundaries, Majid pulling, Wolfendale clipping through mid wicket and Powell driving through extra covers but each managed to get out when under no pressure.
Tim Riley and Josh Hornyold steadied the innings in the face of some aggressive bowling from Burger and put on 40 runs, maintaining the required rate of four an over. Riley then played two poor shots to Holbrook, on the first he was dropped at midwicket, but then fell next ball.
Hornyold soon followed, and whilst Ferguson and Kontarines rallied briefly the increasingly confident Trowbridge pressed home their advantage in convincing fashion to win by 49 runs.
Tomorrow (Saturday) Colwall are away at Wootten Bassett.
