BARNARDS Green fielded four teams on Sunday with the Casuals travelling to Avoncroft for a 40-over friendly.

AVONCROFT v BARNARDS GREEN CASUALS

Batting first Avoncroft were soon in trouble when Dave Price got lateral movement to dismiss opener Nichol for four. Avoncroft then started to find the boundaries with one very short one a large score always looked on the cards.

Dave Price took a good catch to dismiss Hare for 44 off Jamie Longmore and Devon Ward dismissed Rodway for 25. Emily Price was then introduced to the attack and the run rate was curtailed somewhat.

Phil Spencer immediately dismissed Deakin for 39 well stumped by Robin Longmore and three further wickets fell in fairly quick succession, all to Spencer who finished with 4-45. Sam Spencer did well on his debut for the team and shows much promise. Avoncroft finished on 238.

The Green got off to an excellent start through Derek Goodman (92), who used the short boundary to good effect, and Tom Wells (24), who played some excellent on drives.

At 112 without loss off 22 overs, the Green were on target for a final flurry, but an unfortunate run out of Wells saw something of a collapse and the middle order could never increase the tempo as wickets fell regularly and the innings petered out on 174.

The team were however cheered up as news trickled through that the fourth of the teams, the social XI, had wrestled the annual trophy game from the CLOGS in another entertaining match.
