CHRISTMAS panto in Worcester is safe this year, despite a company owned by the producers of the show going into liquidation.
Merlin Musicals Ltd, which was touring a production of The Boyfriend starring the likes of Oliver Tobias, Liliane Montevecchi, and Roy Barraclough, went into liquidation this week.
Directors Richard Swerrun and Dorothy Warner also run Merlin Productions which has a home at Worcester's Swan Theatre and is putting on this year's panto Dick Whittington.
Mr Swerrun said because Merlin Musicals Ltd is an entirely separate business to Merlin Productions, the Worcester company would be unaffected.
Merlin Musicals Ltd was set up a year ago for the sole purpose of putting on The Boyfriend which has been touring since March this year and was due to transfer to the West End.
"Because box office returns were not as we expected, we had to close the show," he said.
"This is a terrible shame but this was the best production of The Boyfriend there has ever been."
