THIS year's Worcester Mayoral Banquet has been described as one of the best ever.

The glittering annual event was held at the historic Guildhall and attended by many of the city's dignitaries.

Guest speaker was Charles Watton of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution - the Mayor's main charity for this year.

"The evening was extremely enjoyable and is certainly one of the best I have ever been to," said the Mayor, Councillor Gareth Jones.

"There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere and the food and drink was wonderful."

Coun Jones, who was accompanied by his wife and two children, his brother and sister and his mother, also had personal reasons for enjoying the event.

"It was lovely to have my family with me as we all live in various parts of the country and don't meet up at the same time very often," he said.
