THE discussions about religion still ramble on; therefore it's time to throw some common sense in to the arena.

First and foremost, there's no such thing as God. There's no tangible evidence that Jesus existed.

E W Carr, (You Say, Saturday, July 5) asks why, although Jesus was supposed to be around in times of the Roman Occupation, there are no writings about him in Roman history.

It's been my belief for a long time now that those who wished for absolute power over others frightened them into submission by inventing that god.

What's also clear to me is that those who consider themselves as followers of a religion appear to have a pathological hatred of those who don't and, of those who follow a different religious path to their own.

I have no axe to grind with anyone who chooses to follow a religion, whether it is because they believe in some super being or just because they need a crutch to help them get through life.

My anger rises when my personal choice is affected by those who decree that their religion should rule all, believers or not.

I don't hate anyone because of their religious beliefs, and would never contemplate stopping anyone from worshipping their personal god.

I just wish the religious zealots would show the same respect to normal people.
