LIKE Carol Roberts, of the BNP (You Say, Saturday, July 5), I am proud to be British. That's why I'm a Conservative.

The Conservative Party gave us Shaftesbury, Disraeli, Churchill and Thatcher, all of whom have contributed to Britain's greatness.

We need a tougher policy on asylum - which the Conservative Party has already proposed - and we need to withdraw from Europe. But these things won't solve all of Britain's problems.

The Socialist economic policies of the British National Party will cost the taxpayer enormously and lead to a retardation of Britain in the global economy just like Labour governments of the past.

MATTHEW A CLARKE,

Hallow,

Worcester.
