IN answer to John Evans, I don't have a short memory and, unfortunately, he misunderstood my previous letter (You Say, Thursday July 3).
Britain wasn't coerced by any European country to join the EU. On the contrary, Britain's entry into the EU came about after years of lengthy negotiations.
In Britain, we did have a choice in the 1974 Referendum. I voted "no" because, then, I held nationalistic views.
Mr Evans clearly voted "yes" because - by his own admission - he believed everything he was told by Westminster and Fleet Street.
Perhaps if - or when - the next referendum on Europe comes round, he should be more discerning before he casts his vote.
L SPITERI,
Worcester.
