TELEVISION star Alistair McGowan made a big impression by handing over more than £160,000 to a Worcestershire arts centre.
The Number 8 Arts and Community Centre, in Pershore, will use the £162,000 funding, jointly supplied by regional development agency Advantage West Midlands and the Pershore Market Town Partnership, towards plans to build a multi-use auditorium, following the presentation on Sunday by the Offenham-born comedian.
The venue will be used as a theatre and cinema as well as for exhibitions and conferences.
Annie Mackison, chairman of Pershore Towns Partnership said the money meant a lot to the team of volunteers who run the centre.
"They have been fund-raising for many years and, from our point of view, it is a very worthwhile project.
"It will also encourage tourists into the town, which will encourage economic benefits for the whole town," she said.
The centre is currently home to the Pershore Operatic and Dramatic Society and the Pershore and District Film Society. It is also used for activities such as tai chi and keep fit.
