A MOTHER who suffered from diabetes died after enjoying a drink with her son, an inquest heard.

Monica Davis, who was going through a divorce, was at her husband Paul's home with their son Richard and her son's friend, Worcestershire coroner Victor Round said.

Mr Round said the unemployed 48-year-old mother was certified dead at the flat in Tunnel Hill, Tolladine, Worcester, in the early hours of Tuesday, May 13, the day after she had been drinking.

"She had a history of problems with alcohol," said Mr Round at the Stourport-on-Severn inquest yesterday.

"During the evening she seems to have drunk a lot.

"Later during that evening she was put to bed by her son, then she was found kneeling on the floor against the bed."

Mr Round said Mr Davis made the discovery when he came home at 11pm, and he called an ambulance after trying to resuscitate his wife.

The coroner told the court that 360mg was found in 100ml of blood.

"It's a high quantity," said Mr Round.

"It was enough to take the life of a woman but not enough to take the life of a man."

The coroner said that Mrs Davis, of Back Lane South, Worcester, suffered from diabetes, and that alcohol and diabetes did not mix.

Mr Round said pathologist Paul Dunn said the cause of death was acute alcohol poisoning.

"She obviously didn't mean to harm herself," said Mr Round.

Mr Round recorded a verdict of misadventure.
