Dear editor - The Westlands Community Association, in their wisdom, has decided that a multi-use game area for all ages is necessary for the Westlands estate.
The area to be used was described at the Westlands Community Associates Planning Forum, held seven months ago, as needing more policing as the area was 'yob' dominated. The committee now thinks this would be the ideal site for children and young people to play, next to a pub and in a 'yob' dominated area.
The cost will be £35,000, the figures given by Mr Rogers at the last meeting. Using the Westlands estate's only paper shop to leave their petition in, the WCA know that many young people will sign once they have read the heading multi-use sports area.
It's a sly underhanded way of making the idea look acceptable. Definitely not the actions of a committee that has something worthwhile and beneficial to offer the decent people whose lives will be most affected. The fencing around the area would have to be at least 15 feet high, in order to prevent the balls from going on the roofs of the pub and the community hall, also to prevent the windows of nearby houses being broken.
Even if the word floodlit has been removed from the plans (emotive word, floodlit) the visual effect will be horrendous and the noise will be totally unacceptable.
How close are the members of the committee's homes to this ugly waste of money? Keith Rogers lives on the other side of Droitwich. His life will not be affected nor the value of his property.
Why can't the Vax Den be used? Same amount of space, plus electricity and greater potential.
Miss A Atkinson, Meadow Green,
Westlands Estate, Droitwich Spa.
