Nearly 60 members and visitors gathered at the Ladybird Inn and enjoyed listening to Mel Mills talking about his gran, who was a gypsy. His stories about her life were quite hilarious, from measuring 4ft 6in, whichever way she was, either lying down or standing up, to describing her colourful language, smoking a pipe that smelled of something quite indescribable and almost literally rolling out of the local pub at closing time, staggering along until she reached her caravan bed where she collapsed into a drunken sleep for the next few hours. Despite this hard living, she still managed to keep going, incredibly healthy until she was over 90 years old.
At the end of the meeting the photograph album showing many of the activities of the club during its 21 years of existence was on display. We were particularly proud of the number of times we won the Somers Cup for the best dressed stall in the Elizabethan street market. The red ribbons are proudly displayed in the album along with a yellow ribbon as well for a third prize.
